She Would Say

Image
She Would Say   I know that; she has experienced Peaks and valleys,  I know that; she has loved Her life because of blessings She would say,   I know that has made Her to embrace and cherish, I know that; she has surpassed Vivid and insipid shades She would say,   I know that has made Her realise it will all perish,  I know what she would say? Afterall!   you are all mine   Because I was the one who Felt you, heard you, bore you,  I know that; she has faced But remained contended She would say,   Because I was meant to be Dutiful, solicitous, and bountiful,   I know that; she has did it all Without malice, otherwise We would have not been born? She would say,   I know that; she is transcendent, She is Magnificent, She is Endless, She would not say.   Noorul Huda 25/4/22 She loves Gardening and this fresh bloomed Yellow Lilly is for her. ...

Ambedkar as a Wonder

Image
Ambedkar as a Wonder      In my childhood, I was fascinated by the attire of Ambedkar and his chashma. Then I had no thought that his attire is a   symbol of modernity. I use to wonder why we celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti every year on the 14 th April but today I understand his philosophy, stature, and magnanimity. His insults, humiliation and social stigma of lower caste made him constructive critic of Indian society. Due to exploitation,   he possessed a firm belief in democracy, where every individual will have political, social and economic justice. And his affirmation has reflected in the preamble of the Indian constitution.      When I ask my students about their role model or any inspiring personality they look up to I do get answers   ‘Ambedkar’, then I ask them why? Their answers would be this ‘he gave us Constitution’,   but my dear students don’t know that what treasure he has left with all of us. Probably they might hav...

Revolutionary Phule

Image
Revolutionary Phule “ Lack of education leads to lack of wisdom, which leads to lack of morals, which leads to lack of progress, which leads to lack of money, which leads to the oppression of the lower classes, see what state of the society one lack of education can cause.” -Phule In my master's I opted for Dalit literature as one of my soft-core subjects. During this process of learning, I became acquainted with the personality of the Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule. I also discovered Phule is not just a social reform rather he is an institution in himself. So from then, I started admiring his revolutionary thoughts and principles. In the early 19th century, Phule became popular due to his out-of-the-box thinking. He became the pioneer to launch a movement for the liberation of caste-oppressed, toilers and women irrespective of the caste in modern India. I must mention his inspiration for his actions such as Buddha, Kabir, the emergent liberation of the west, and the ...

Ukraine: Land of Wounds

Image
Ukraine: Land of Wounds Though I am too late to talk about the Ukraine crisis yet, the problem remains fresh and fervulent. The creation of new nations has always been problematic, similar is in the case of Ukraine and its ongoing crisis. Ukraine got its independence in 1991 from Soviet Russia and declared itself a neutral state. In 1994 established its partnership with NATO. The further political developments grew bitter with Russia by initiating the closer of economic ties. Hence led to Russia's annexation of Crimea in March 2014. This was further supported by Russian-backed separatists, which resulted in a Russian invasion in February 2022. As a nation, Ukraine is packed with ethnic affiliations. Its ethnicity contributes to enriching its cultural pride and at the same time, it could be a root cause of divisions and tensions in the society. Therefore, the nation's political and cultural fabric becomes fragile and turbulent. Ukraine is divided into four directions for its po...

Cherishing Moments with P. Sainath

Image
Cherishing Moments with P. Sainath   It's my honour and pleasure to share my experience of meeting stalwart journalist P.Sainath on the 1st of April 2022, on the occasion of the Late Dr. Shantinath Desai Memorial Endowment Lecture, organised by the Department of P.G.Studies and Research in English, Kuvempu University, Shimoga. His lecture on "Journalism in India, where we are 200 years on" has been an eye-opener about the inception of Indian journalism. According to him "Good journalism is a process of engaging with times." such a type of journalism was witnessed during the Indian freedom struggle. He mentioned the top journalists of those times such as Ram Mohan Roy, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh etc.  He believes that Indian journalism is the child of freedom struggle which was loaded with moral authority towards society. But, today's journalism has lost its essence due to the monopoly of the market, and most of the news channels are eith...

Reading Mahashweta

The simplicity of Sudha Murthy is reflected in her language and writings. The novel " Mahashweta " is one among those. The main character Anupama is suffered from a disease called leukoderma. She is depicted as a fascinating character in the first half of the novel. The very typical girl with self-confidence and who has directed Sanskrit plays during her student life and when her in-laws and husband Anand dejected after the affliction of disease. Basically, the novel projects the social stigma and prejudices associated with leukoderma disease. In a patriarchal society to be born as a girl is a bane besides with disease it is hell. The dejection, social pressure and poverty forced her to contemplate suicide. But despite such odds, her education made her determined to rebuild her life and she moves to Bombay where she finds liberty to live as human, success, respect and the promise of an enduring friendship. I found this novel as an inspiring story of Anupama. Where she overcom...
