Cherishing Moments with P. Sainath
Cherishing Moments with P. Sainath
It's my honour and pleasure to share my experience of meeting stalwart journalist P.Sainath on the 1st of April 2022, on the occasion of the Late Dr. Shantinath Desai Memorial Endowment Lecture, organised by the Department of P.G.Studies and Research in English, Kuvempu University, Shimoga.
His lecture on "Journalism in India, where we are 200 years on" has been an eye-opener about the inception of Indian journalism. According to him "Good journalism is a process of engaging with times." such a type of journalism was witnessed during the Indian freedom struggle. He mentioned the top journalists of those times such as Ram Mohan Roy, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh etc.
He believes that Indian journalism is the child of freedom struggle which was loaded with moral authority towards society. But, today's journalism has lost its essence due to the monopoly of the market, and most of the news channels are either owned by the central or state governments. Despite these challenges, a small number of journalists, journalism are making a huge impact though.
His profound words have made remarks on each and every individual who had participated in this program.

The media has to play a very important role in a democracy. Media should be the voice of the common people and it has to discharge its moral responsibility to inform and question the government of the people's problem. But in our country the media is acting like slaves of political parties and forgetting their ethics of journalism and responsibilities. India needs journalists like P. Sainath who is honest and ethical and transparent. P.Sainath exposed the corruption of PMFBY(pradhan mantri fhasal bheema yojana). He wrote a wonderful article on how private insurance companies are cheating farmers and how the government is nurturing private insurance companies.
ReplyDeleteThe ongoing developments in India are creating unrest in the society. Religious acts of hatred between religions are constantly being carried out by social forces, but it is a shame that the media forgets their responsibility and acts like a slave.
In such a situation, the masses should not fall prey to the machinations of the communalists. Hatred is being sown in the name of patriotism. Hostility is being sown among the people in the name of religion.
It is imperative that we see only human beings as human beings, rather than the Hindu,Muslim,Christ, rich, and poor educated and uneducated..
I was delighted that P. Sainath had arrived at Kuvempu University Shimoga. Congratulations to you Noor' meeting an honest Indian journalist..
P. Sainath is my all time favorite journalist.
