I use to wonder why we celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti every year on the 14 th April but today I understand his philosophy, stature, and magnanimity. His insults, humiliation and social stigma of lower caste made him constructive critic of Indian society. Due to exploitation,   he possessed a firm belief in democracy, where every individual will have political, social and economic justice. During this process of learning, I became acquainted with the personality of the Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule. The simplicity of Sudha Murthy is reflected in her language and writings. The novel " Mahashweta " is one among those. The main character Anupama is suffered from a disease called leukoderma. She is depicted as a fascinating character in the first half of the novel. The very typical girl with self-confidence and who has directed Sanskrit plays during her student life and when her in-laws and husband Anand dejected after the affliction of disease. Basically, the novel projects the social stigma and prejudices associated with leukoderma disease. In a patriarchal society to be born as a girl is a bane besides with disease it is hell. The dejection, social pressure and poverty forced her to contemplate suicide. But despite such odds, her education made her determined to rebuild her life and she moves to Bombay where she finds liberty to live as human, success, respect and the promise of an enduring friendship.
